Horrible conversion rates

I just started a new campaign with Yahoo. And already i have seen horrible conversion rates. I have seen this in the past but i though maybe a totally different niche would give different results.

So in the past, i spend about $1,200 in 1 weekend with Yahoo, This led to about 1,500 clicks and only 3 conversions. Using the exact same keywords and ads with google, i received about 123 sales from the same amount of clicks on the same keywords. I origionally thought it was just either a fluke or the niche i was advertising. Now i am in a totally new niche, using google adwords i am converting well enough to make a profit. about a 2.8% conversion rate over 375 clicks. Again with yahoo using the exact same ads, 0% off 213 clicks so far. and the bounce rate is ungodly compared to google.

Has anyone had similar experiences or any input?

And here is what really gets me, i was ranking high for the main keyphase i was payin for a few months after that $1,200 weekend with yahoo and converted nearly 9%...

I guess it varies a lot from niche to niche. My conversion rate on Yahoo is about the same as on AdWords.
Check if most of those clicks are coming from a content network, if so try disabling it. I had to do that for some ad groups.

Some of our clients used Yahoo in the past and received no conversions but an impossible amount of what they believed were non-human clicks.

I believe there was a lawsuit again Yahoo for just this reason.

Because of that we've never tried Yahoo and never will.

Were you paying $0.8 per a click on Yahoo? it's a bit too much for non converting traffic anyway, and there is a good chance those clicks came from content network or non human clicks - That's A'. And B', i think there should be no difference between search engines as far as conversion is concerned.

I understand where you coming from, but from what I've see there usually is a difference. Some products convert better on Google, some products convert better on Yahoo. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell beforehand where a specific product will convert better.

I agree. The reason for this is the types of people who visit Yahoo search engine, and the people who visit Google search engine.
I still think that there's a big chunk of quality traffic (people who buy stuff on the net) on Yahoo with specific niches that WILL convert much better than on Google.

Have you done some tests? Remove the keywords who did not bring searches, add other. If you have no success, rewrite the ads.

You might want to blockout partner sites.

In my point of view, I think yahoo has worst conversion rate than adwords.
Google adwords gives me conversion rate 4-5% but yahoo only gives me 2-3% conversion rate.
This is proof. I used Yahoo for long time ago.
Anyway, what position are you ads displaying in YSM?

I deposited about $100 with yahoo more than a year ago. I am down to the last $25 and never had a single conversion with them. I just gave up using them, but they have my money.
Don't get me wrong I know what I am doing when it comes to PPC.
I will be sticking with Big G. in future

You have a relatively small budget.
As it is a different search engine with different quality traffic, you need to try an advertising tactic, see how it goes, then fix and try again.

I think you should give it another shot, anyhow!

Conversions also depend on the type of product you're promoting.
Information products typically work better on Google while I've seen good conversions for physical products on MSN.

Google is really the only ones who can guarantee it's human clicks. I have used Yahoo for various projects in the past to test and now only use it with free coupons. I was getting horrible conversions as well on Yahoo.

If you were able to get so many clicks, maybe you should first take a look at the copy on your website. How about having a couple of friends to read the copy on the site and ask them if they would buy this product/service but don't tell them its your site. This way they will be more honest on what they think.

Hmmm, I got a bit worser results also with Yahoo. But I dont think it was my or yahoos fault, you can find hundreds of topics on the internet where people say they get much better conversions with yahoo as with google.

Those are expensive clicks. If your conversion rate is so low, try to get a lower CPC rate. Any other good PPC companies?

Some products better on Google, some products better on Yahoo. But for me it not much different, I think it depend on products that you promoted.
Google is better in CTR, if your ads get good CTR you will get low CPC but yahoo can not.
