All of the honest hosts here at DP are getting sick and tired of seeing the number of dodgy hosts selling unrealistic resources at rock bottom prices; even more so people buying the packages then wondering why their website is dead half the time or why their data is gone 1 week later. People buying hosting through the Web Hosting section here at DigitalPoint have a right to know who can be trusted. It's common knowledge that IwhiC & Cameron[NetXServers] are well respected and trusted hosts, equally there are many more of us who've advertised here for months and not had any problems. I personally have been advertising here since September 2007 and so far no complaints. We need to discuss how best to go about setting this up, the idea of a sticky thread seems good but how do we 'administer' who can/can't be trusted etc?
Yep, it is It's run by Me, IwhiC (Jason & Aimee) and Prilep (AKA Daniel) All DP members are welcome to join and hopefully we can stop stuff like the recent HostingSpace4u problem.
You need to teach people that if the deal looks good to be true, it is. Because EVERY host needs to earn a profit to sustain itself.
Hello, There isnt only oversold companies, one night stand, etc They are also "companies",run by 1 person, thats why the prices are way too low,and they dissapear after 1-2 months. Also, sub resellers, mostly young teenagers, which they re-sell hosting for 1-2 months, until to make money to pay for theirs condoms(!),mobile phone bills, etc Also,DP should stop this.It should confirm any and each host, before it can make offers in the board. Confirm details like phone, adress, business details, contact information(like WHT) Finally, people(future customers),must understand what web hosting is and what the expenses for a company is every month. With this in mind, they will stop asking and search for 1 dollar hosting. Regards, Alex
A very good initiative. Will sign up in 24 hours Presently a bit busy with updating the stuff on site.
Well you spell out the problems about web hosting adverts clearly and concisely. Verifying and checking the web hosts' offers and users' feedback is a full time job over at WHT. It would be pretty hard to implement it here as you will need a lot of extra hands, many new mods just for this.
I think the sheer grit and determination shown by many hosts to provide a high level of service despite the scam-hosts being a majority at the moment will keep this alive. If as many hosts who are keen to prove themselves join up, post the 'Certified' button on their site, get other hosts to join, keep an eye out for dodgy hosts; this will succeed.
