Homepage has dissapeared

My homepage has been consistently on the first page of google for a period of months for some pretty competitive keyword searches. Over the past 2 months I have noticed that depending on what computer I i run a search from, my homepage does not show up.

More recently I do a search and my homepage doesn't come up, if I hit search again, it will come up. This weekend it dissapeared completely. The homepage is still indexed and all my sub pages still rank fine.

My homepage has dissapeared before and it slowly returned, but what I really want to know is.. has this happened to anyone else? Did your homepage return? How long did it take?

Do people think this is a penalty, as I know the big G can apply a penalty to one page.

    Any insight is much appreciated.

First of all, make sure you turn off personalized search settings in your Google account when you are doing a search.

Next, SERP fluctuation is normal especially for new sites. This issue can be resolved by having fresh incoming links from external sites regularly.

The site is approximately 8 months old. And I have turned off personalised search. The traffic has slowed down for these bigger terms and now is at 0. The page doesn't even rank for its name (a hyphonated domain). I'm guessing it could be a penalty.

This has happened before, but without me doing anything, it slowly climed back up the rankings. Now it's gone again.

no, I don't sell links. I have no need to as it is an affiliate site. I have done some fairly aggressive link building over the past year and it would be almost impossible to get all those links taken down. I have also got some very good quality links. A lot of people seem to be experiencing penalties at the moment. Do you reckon older sites are more exempt?

Not only you but many sites effected by fluctuated in Google.com due to their merge supplement results. This fluctuate is heavily swing since yesterday and no idea when this fluctuated would be ended. However, most of heavily in fluctuated is a sign of newly update in Google for backlink/index/supplement/duplicate and should be come out normal in a very soon.

If you are not sure what I'm talking about, please read more of these threads as reference :D This thing has been discussed before and got some conclusion

Search for your domain name in google search engine.
    do you find it?
if you can't find it, it probably has been penalty

yes did a search and it doesn't come up. I am redeveloping the site with much more content, so I guess I will wait it out for a few more weeks and if it's not back by then, file a reinclusion request.

May be you violated their "terms of use".

When I submitted my real estate site to your real estate directory (into the appropriate cat) you e-mailed me back a denial stating to read the terms of use. I later did and still cannot understand what exactly is the prob.

    Not a prob though.

BTW it would have been nice to post a little more about how you rectified your issues at google. It may have helped others. Just a suggestion!;)
