A homeowner was arrested after a burglar plunged from the balcony of his top-floor flat. Story here Right is wrong and wrong is right? What is justice anymore? I need a drink...
Unfortunately, cases like this are not new, at least in the US. As far as I am concerned if you break into my house in the middle of the night I can only assume you have the potential and/or will to kill me, anything I do at that point should be considered as self defense. My home was broken into by an illegal alien. He entered my house via a window next to my bed. I was not home at the time but if I was he would have had to walk across me to gain entry into my home. I can only imagine that I would have thought my life was in danger and would have done what I thought needed in order protect myself. If I had killed him, would I be at fault?
......Another resident said: "I presume we will have to respect the burglar's rights while his victim has the nightmare of court hanging over his head. It all seems so unfair." .......... A 56-year-old man had woken up to find a man in his flat. .......... I can understand the 56 year old man getting pissed at an uninvited person loking for gold in his condo and during the search wakes him up..... I feel sorry for the injured guy, but my support goes to the 56 year old man as well. So many elders get killed in their homes by gangsters. Normaly the bandits come with no good intentions and you are never sure if they are coming just for your money or your money and live as well. Don't kill them, but make sure you and your family are not killed either.
Luckily for you, you didn't. Because based on your online persona you would have spent the rest of your life questioning your action anyways.
@ WebdevHowto: No, you should not. @ bbn: I guess citizens need sensitivity training, and night scare training in order to make a good decision with a burglars intent. What a world...lets go back to the old west. D
Sucks to live in the UK. In Florida, if someone breaks into my home; I can do pretty much what I want to him. Castle Doctrine applies: http://www.gunlaws.com/FloridaCastleDoctrine.htm
I would of took out my shotgun, shot him and then pushed him out! I hate thieves, and I hate people who break into houses who put people's lives in danger for couple of 100 or thousand dollars.
That's an area of the law that really stinks in the UK That Castle Doctrine is so right ... and I thought that an Englishman's home was his castle!
I would have run down the stairs after I pushed him out, and then proceeded to continue beating him. 56 years old, getting the better of a younger guy? Damn right I support the 56 year old. It is every single humans individual right to defend themselves and their property and their family with the use of any force necessary to incapacitate and neutralize the threat. If it happened to me I would have absolutely no guilt - and I can assure you he'd have been dead BEFORE he fell out the window.
I got burgled, years ago when I was in. Chased the devils out with a khukri, down the parade in Leamington Spa. Reached the petrol station before the red mist disappered......but I was stark boll~~~~cked naked
I agree. You definitely don't want your burglar suing you cuz he twisted his ankle trying to get the TV through the front door.
Note to self, In case I'm in UK: Next time do not forget to greet the burglar with flowers and say thank you, when he pulls his gun on you...
