    Hi,

I've built my own multimediaplayer, and installed it on a mini-ITX pc. Functions are audio, video, photo slideshow, Google Calendar, a timer and a calculator.

Here you can see the result :

I assembled the hardware and first planned to use a commercial package, but I didn't find what I had in mind. So I wrote it myself. I paid a lot of attention to the graphical aspects. I hope you like it.

Explanation of hardware and software can be found on http://dhs.webatu.com.

    Windows XP.

Reminds me that I should do a little test on Vista and Win7 to see if it works alright. Should not be a problem.

Very nice. If you could make it running on a Microcontroller or DSP, it will be a great achievement. We are planning to create a similar unit using a DSP.

I guess it would be very hard to make it run on a microcontroller or DSP. The combination XP and Delphi is very strong, and allows me to built very powerful applications. But it only runs on an X86 based computer.

Unless you know a way to run XP in some kind of appliance box ? I would be HIGHLY interested !!!!!!!

DSPs are very powerful chips comparable to Microcontrollers. You can find 1 GHz DSPs with about 512 KB internal RAM, 256 MB External RAM, SD card port, 8 SD/HD/VGA video ports, 4 HD audio in/out ports, 1 Gbps Ethernet ports, etc....
However you have to write everything from scratch using C++ and Assembly which is very much fun.
See Texas Instruments DM648 Digital Signal Processor for example.
See this DM648 Evaluation module from Lyrtech.
