I currently have two shared hosting accounts. One only cause it was $10 for the year with a domain. The other hostgator keep suspending me for CPU usage. I need a VPS but I been putting it of until I find a job. I have around 20 sites and 30 domains. Most get a few visits a day but the most popular get around 3000 uniques. This bring me to this. I can get a poweredge 1650 for $50.oo and a stick of ddr2 2 1.1ghz p3 2 gbram 2 36 gb 10k I know home servers dont work for webhosting but for my needs would it? I have yahoo dsl and they gave me a ok and said 768k upload/download. I might pass on the server and just get a $20vps but I have a feeling I will be disappointed. On the other note is it better to just use a p4 with good ram and drives over outdated servers?
i had same issues check out mddhosting.com resources are so much more than hostgator and they dont suspend you, they email you and help find the issue. email him your sites and they have great deals tell him lindsaylohan.us sent you -=-- i dont make money lol just really satisfied
VPS depends on how database intensive your site is. I tried one and was disappointed. I then got a dedicated server. Beats the hell out of sharing one except now I can't blame someone else when it is lagging. I run several db intensive sites from it. It's nice being able to set your own environments also. I hear I can upgrade my cable connection and use my own server. But this connection goes down far too often. They still sell fract T1s? Get one and sell connections to your neighbors
Yes, we can try that out. I will limit you to 2~3 full cores, max. Is that okay? can any one what is the meaning of core in above lines. the feedback above it given by one of the webhoster where i m looking to buy VPS. any one can tell.
its mostly wordpress blogs and smf forums. Sometimes a cron will hang up and they will shut me down for 12 hours. The cron job is only checking the feeds, theres no reason for it to cause 78% load as they claim. I found a bunch of vps for under $20 but some are unknowns. fsckvps is one of the more well knowns im looking at. Im defintly getting away from shared hosting.
FsckVPS is good but remember its a unmanaged service - you are on your own. if you have experience with Linux and like doing this DIY(do-it-yourself) its good, else you would face problems. provider will ensure that your box is up and running. according to your usage this plan looks good. all your sites would run like breeze on this, super fast as here you got lot of horsepower 2GB RAM Plan - FsckVPs there also a cheap alternative, I would suggest to start with 1GB plan and upgrade when if you required as you are paying monthly 1GB Plan FsckVPs If you need Cpanel, then add $14 per month to monthly bill
IMO, home server is never recommended due to the low bandwidth . It will have negative effects to your sites. So cheap Dedicated servers, is it reliable? where to order ?
