Hi, I would like some opinions on the best homepage layout for an Amazon review site. I guess some of the options are leave the homepage as a blog so any updates go there. Oh, my reviews will be on separate pages. have a large 750 to 1000 word article on the homepage discussing the products in general, a combination of article and blog posts, or a summary of the reviews with an article and/or blog posts. What seems to work better? Thanks, Michael
My sites that do the best have a small overview of the products in the sidebar and a matrix of pictures linking to product pages on the homepage.
Hi Michael Everyone has different ways and it's all about trial and error and finding a way which suits you best. The bottom line for everyone is sales and when you try and it doesn't work then, change it until you see a difference. It's the only way you learn. I have tried a homepage website for Amazon products and it didn't work for me, but it could for you. I use free wordpress blogs, the free Google keyword tool and mainly choose to promote technology products which have low and positive feedback or are relatively new and this has made a difference. All the tools I use are free apart from the time I spend doing my keyword research and writing each product blog. All the best
It really matters on what type of site you have and what type of audience / product you're targeting, really. A blog wouldn't really suit a review-only site (each post should be a review, not a "personal" post). If you're also offering tips and tricks as well as reviews, then a blog may be suitable.
I have both a product review site and I do an individual free wordpress blog for each Amazon product I promote and it works a treat.
I agree. It's about testing. Try lots of pictures with small descriptions linking to your amazon link. If you are not happy with the results or curious about another tactic try posting blog posts (unique content related to your niche) on the homepage with a rss feed on your niche in the side bar for more content the next week. KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING AND HAVE MULTIPLE SITES CHANGING ONE VARIABLE AT A TIME FOR TESTING. Good luck!!
It's kind of best practice to have your 1st page static with the product info etc. Then I would build pages for each product with good product - bad product. You may want to check out Hitesh Junega's Amazon Affiliate Automation(AAA) - its a plugin that does alot of the work for you. It's on the Warrior Forum...
Hi, thanks for the tips. I am re-working one of my Amazon sites, well my only one, for now. I was away for a few months and it fell off Google. But I guess I will do some testing when i start getting enough traffic to get good data. thanks, Michael
I own Hitesh's plugin and can vouch that it's a huge time saver; however, it does have it's faults. My main gripe is that it stores the information in a way that's not very easy to modify and doesn't allow you to choose a category for the post to go into. It's excellent though for creating small sites where you'll have the products as pages rather than posts.
My amazon site has most of the products I'm promoting on the first page with short descriptions since it's a review site. On top of the page it has a banner that changes from one product to the next and when you click it it shows the short description (Hard to explain sorry). It's a wordpress plug-in.
I have 4 review sites, medium amount of traffic, and no conversions, i make money with private and publisher ads
I make serious bank with Amazon. However, I could care less if my home page ever ranks or even how it looks. It's the individual product pages that I'm concerned about. They are the pages I want to see ranking (and they usually do). Since many of my review sites use magazine-type themes, the home page typically shows images and excerpts of several reviews in varying formats depending on the theme.
