Hi all, I'm new to the forums and I apologize if this has been a posted topic before but I wasn't quite sure how to look for it. I'm new to PHP and its been forever since I've done HTML and I'm just starting to get back into it all with designing of a website.

I was just looking for some basic help that I wasn't quite sure how to do...

The way that I'm building this site is so that there can be users and different pages, etc, you know the drill, and my problem was when I was doing the designing I wasn't quite sure how to put in a "Home" button that would take the person to the home screen of the website when logged out and to take them to their account when logged in. I haven't set up the user database yet but this was just something that I was annoying me because I haven't been able to figure it out.

I've come to one of two conclusions... that once a user logs in, there is all new web pages that I need to put in the database (which I doubt) or its just an alternate command, in which case I need to know how to link it all together.

    Thanks for any help.

    vg-connection,

It is good to fully understand the code on your website. It is a waste of time to write, what you are trying to do from scratch(No need to roll your own). I am not answering your direct question, because it would only lead to more questions.

What I think you need is a website built on CMS (Content Management System). The reasons for a novice or advanced user to use CMS is easy editing of pages from your browser, easily adding extra features to your website using modules or extensions and easily changing the look and feel of the web page by using templates and themes.

If you have no experience with CMS you can go to http://www.opensourcecms.com and try out demos of 100 or so of the most popular CMS applications out there. Test them all and choose the one that suits you best. Don't get discouraged because a new user may get lost in all the options a CMS has to offer. Learn what you need to know and your website will have all the features you could ever want.

I use Xoops here is a link to my website www.alphamonk.net

Other reason for using a CMS is your post. Every CMS has it's own forum and enthusiastic folks who use the application who can help you and know exactly what you are talking about when you mention a button on a certain web page that you want to X with.

If you start off with a CMS it could possibly cut a year or two off your learning curve. Instead of getting knee deep in a simple webpage you can begin by building a web site.
