Seriously, everything here is totally orange - it's crazy looking. I'm waiting on the zombies, personally.

Here's a link to a local news site with one picture up; http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26113648-421,00.html

I plan on taking some of my own once my camera is charged up.

    Seriously, it's freaking amazing.

Wow - that's nuts, and pretty cool. Never seen anything like it, looks apocalyptic. It says this is due to dust being kicked up, all over the region...is it posing any kind of breathing issue?

Thanks for the link to pics.

Wow! That is some cool stuff, I personally would be waiting for the end of times seeing something like this. I wonder how long you guys will be seeing orange?
    Thanks for sharing!

Hmmm... that is indeed quite weird. When I first read the title I figured you meant the orange tint that sometime occurs during sunset, however from that picture i've never seen anything quite like it

Same here... even I thought you meant to describe the tint that the sky lays down. But this is like OMFGKKLSJS!

Right now as the sun is in fully out it is just a thick cloud of light coloured dust - so the orange has faded a lot but there is still a very smokey look to the air - it also looks as though the sky is blanketed with clouds; however this is in fact a massive layer of dust.

I think the asthmatics are probably going to have some big problems today; which is a concern for my de facto brother in law who will be walking through it for at least 40 minutes - I'm hoping he skips work today.

I'll admit I'm a tad concerned for the local wildlife also; this stuff is thick enough it is actually triggering smoke alarms - the Koalas will probably be sick due to there not moving so well along the ground and sticking in the trees where possible.

It's the first time I've seen anything like this here my whole life - really whacked out.

    *edit

I missed the last post with pics attached; where we are was even worse than that at between 5:30 and 7:30 - it was probably about twice as bad at it's high point. I wish my camera hadn't been flat >.<'

Hope you and your brother in law are fine. Give him a call and ask him to skip work if possible.

Such dust layers are known to cause trouble to people who're not even asthmatic. So Stay indoors as possible and wear a mask or tie your kerchief around your face if possible.

Truly extraordinary, thank you for sharing! I wasn't able to view the video but did read the news article. The health of humans and animals would be of great concern!

Sparxxx - we were hit with some huge storms over night; the rain wasn't too bad but the winds were insane; I'm pretty sure we'll see a lot of fallen trees and hear of downed internet connection problems throughout the day. Anyways, the amount of wind was clearly enough to blow the dust up from a good distance away; however the stereotype looks, we don't live in places with sand and dust everywhere.
I live in a suburban area, no where near a beach, desert or whatnot; I figure the dust has come at least 100 miles, maybe more.

Maggie: you're welcome - and I just hope the animals have places to go; there's been a LOT of construction here the past two or three years.

As to you Kris, I'm going to text him now. :)

It hit Brisbane this morning, I have a small job to go and finish, I should have gone and done it first thing this morning because it was fine when I got up. Then the winds came and so did the dust.

Its windy, hot and all doors and windows are closed to keep the dust out, but I can still smell it in the air.
May go for a drive and get some pics and video instead of going to work :)
(never seen it this bad before)

    Cheers
    James

Yeah, it's the worst one in 70 years for NSW, and comparable to the worst in history.

We are not orange any more but the dust is thick and we can smell it too - there also seems to be a distressed possum in our roof, which is good because at least it is now, for the most part, out of harms way.

Let's hope no one has gotten sick - at least most kids probably got to stay from school. Heh.
