So what do we know about Oversee???

Moniker was the blue chip domain company, although there have been issues of poor service lately, if this sale was in the works no doubt Monte was squeezing on payroll to make his numbers look better. But with a parent company not in the domain business, bet Moniker will be just another company soon.

There does not seem to be a way to avoid switching registrars every year or two in this business.

Hi accentnepal, Oversee.net is very much in the domain business. They are the parent company of SnapNames, DomainFest Conference, and DomainSponsor.

So now snapnames will have first hand access to domain names expiring at moniker as well.

Yeah, I saw that bit about them owning Snap after I posted.

Is it just me or are the leading companies in this industry all buying each other? - And more importantly - what does that mean for the little guys?

Its going to push the little guys down more! Shocking move but hopefully it will be to the benefit of all domainers.

A dry observation but most likely true.

I received my notification of this decision, just this morning, a few hours ago.

IMO, for a business, this was a SMART purchase.

As for "the little man," it obviously means more money to acquire the names we want. I do feel a little bit better since I do Snap occasionally and hope they use Moniker as the preferred registrar. Maybe I'm dreaming, but who knows.

The situation with the auctions is also going to be one I can't wait to see. Moniker is the leading force with domaining auctions, and Oversee is huge in the domaining industry.

2008 started with a bang... in terms of domaining news and revenue.

It's certainly going to be an interesting year in developments on the domaining front this year, with a few important changes in the pipeline, which will no doubt speed up things considerably on a few fronts that's for sure.

Seems cheap enough, not a bad price at all.
