I just want to remind Directory Webmasters about holiday skins for their directories. Let’s put a good show on for the holiday season. Last year we had some very nice holiday skins but not a lot of them.
Seems like a waste of time unless you have a really popular site. Can show ignorance too towards other cultures and their holidays if its only done for christmas or halloween or whatever. This reminds me of how newsletters and other things i read appear like the US is the globe, they forget their readers may be from the UK, India, Pakistan. Sorry for polite moan but such ignorance in the world.
Ok then Pipes. We can use IP tracking to only show the template to certain countries I know Rob had a great Halloween skin on Dump. Wow directory had a brilliant Christmas theme.
Yeah I love how Google's logo is so flexible that they can alter it so many times. I've also noticed that Google UK gets UK specific logo's too that people using Google US or .Com won't notice @Amenda - like Rob is going to let you have his prized halloween theme for free.....
I get a lot of good feedback on holiday skins every year. I think it shows you care about your customers and the service you offer.
i have one for halloween on one directory, and i have one for christmas on another directoyr. tis' the season ps.s - pipes just sucks at life, so his bitterness is expected. so nevermind him.
I agree totally. It also shows that your website is live and active. Most directories probably run a pretty static front page, where the content/layout doesn't change much. So having a skin that represents *the season* lets your audience/customer/visitor know that you are indeed active in running/maintaining your site.
Thought I was the only one thinking about that. www.xoww.com - just opened - I hacked this together yesterday. In the works is a Fall/Thanksgiving and then Christmas (should include Hanukkah but I don't know the traditions to include something in the header image). If one tried to customize for every holiday in the world would be so much work.
