Im suprised no one's pointed this out: it is possible to be immune to AIDs, as long as you ahve direct European ancestors. The virus works in a very similar way to bubonic plague, so if you ancestors passed on the genes for Black Death immunity, there's a good chance you may be immune to aids (you can still carry the virus, but it can't harm you) The first case like this was discovered shortly after AIDs was discovered, it was a San Fransico gay dude who managed to outlive all of his partners/friends, who all kicked the bucket from the disease.
Thats what I have been saying. This story isnt't that big. Its not like scientists ave developed a cure or something.
The 'resistant' family was on a tv documentary. There are 'other' cases of HIV resistant people, but the documentary seemed to focus on the 'family' attribute since identification of the 'trait/gene/protein' could be identified easier. But with a G-search "nairobi women hiv resistant" I found other information about even prostitutes being resistant. hth, tom
