'Hits' number in directories

    Is that the number of page views your site listing has received and the 'visits' number is the total of people that actually clicked into your site?

    Probably depends on the script.

    If the directory is tracking click-throughs that's not a good thing... not SE friendly.

    If it's counting your clicks then the URL to your site is usually something like

    xdirectory.com/click.php?listing=12345

    which does not count as a link to the search engines. Anything but your URL is a bad thing. :)
