Are happening to my site a lot more now than it used to. Seems like that might even be where most of my hits from search engines come from. Google image hits. Why would this be and would you say it is a good or bad thing?
This would probably be because your images are well optimized for terms that are searched for a lot. Have a look in your analytics to try and determine what keywords are driving traffic and look at optimizing your site on page for these keywords. It's neither a good or bad thing
The images mostly come up through relevant keywords. Sometimes they reveal keywords that have absolutely nothing to do with my site though. The reason is largely because my site is a forum and people put all kinds of images in their signatures and avatars.
How can getting hits from google be a bad thing. For sure is a great thing because you are geting visitors without trying to hard. You have done something good and now just enjoy the benefits.
one of more of yuor site images probably rank well on google image search. lot of people search for images and once they find what they like, they click on the image means a visit to your site.
I didn't mean bad as in hits are bad, I meant that I was wondering if it was some kind of indication that I wasn't targeting right for my keywords. Hits aren't all equal, and a lot of the images are unrelated to my site's topic, while no hit to a site is bad, with a niche forum, targeted hits definitely wind up with more signups than someone looking for something entirely unrelated than the image that lands them there. Its good, your getting organic traffic though not in the web result but it still may convert to sale the different is that you can get more traffics in web search.
