I can define what they are: Hits, files, pages, visits, sites if there is more forgive me, but when analyzing traffic to my site what should I be paying attention to?

If anyone can put the definitions in:
    a. plain english
    b. tell me what they do
    c. what is the most important number of all

    I will be very grateful

    Thanks :)

Hits is useless info. Say a visitor reaches a page and there's like 10 images it has to download to view the page. Each image download will count as a hit.

What your looking for is unique visitors to the site. Pageviews can also be useful data.
