Hi guys - I have a popular blog www.takeareport.com and no idea how best to market it. Sure, it's gutter talk, to the extreme, but it's totally unmarketed and built from nothing but word of mouth. I think I tried digg or fark a couple of times a few months back to no avail and wasn't into it. It's also pretty much all Wall Street trading community who reads it. The only thing I don't want is porno ads or advertising that will drive off readership. In a perfect world, a big store, like Nordstrom or BrooksBros would let us be an affiliate, but they want nothing to do with it. (Even though I think they could rack $50k in sales if we pushed readership) So I contacted some marketing departments of casinos, who also want nothing to do with it. I don't think it's possible to recreate such a loyal and quality readership. Any suggestions? (Celebslam - as per the other thread: your site is very cool.) Click Sitemeter in the side bar. We average over 6k visits and 12k pageviews per weekday. That number grows bit by bit from 0 when we started back in May. It's quite a run and now I'm at a loss...
why dont you just run cpa ads or cpm banner/text ads if you are looking to make an income off of the advertisements? is that what your asking?
That's the direction, I suppose. I know how to make a popular website. Next I have to learn how to "monetize" it right. Please give me a site or two to check out. I did the adSense, but now Google is only interested in raising money for Katrina. (offensive word filter, I suppose)
You can try stumbleupon for fast traffic..but for SEO, there's a lot of ways...link building, forum promotions, social bookmarkings, etc.
Sounds interesting, I may be able to help you. Please reach out if you see interest in my siggs. Been in your shoes a few times now, monetizing isn't that hard once you blitz properly with retention everywhere... Look forward to hearing from you. Best, NC.
Good input, thanks. I am not, however, looking for fast traffic, I don't know if I made that clear. Even though the content itself doesn't really reflect it, readership is semi-niche (financial world) oriented and quite valuable, I think. NC - thanks. Will be in touch.
I agree with Raider, Cpa offers are a great way to monetize your site. Go to ModerdClick and sign up. Keith Baxter's site. Are you capturing the emails of your readers? If you are, you can send them Cpa offers related to your niche. I would look for "zip" offers to send them. People don't mind filling in their zip code to get more information. Easy money depending on the responsiveness of your list. Jason
I agree with the above, you should just use PPC such as Adwords to get traffic. It doesn't have to be quick.
