Well I'm not sure if its a penalty or not... I think its googles procedure.. every 6 months or so for sites under 3 years of age they will drop 10 places usually a whole page or even 2 pages for their main keywords in the serps... I was wondering why this is? Anyone else experienced this?
Hmm...if this is true then it should be considered a new concept of Google which I never experienced with. I have seen many websites aged between 1-2 years have a good and stabilized ranking in Google and some 5 years old website a huge dropped in ranking without an exact clue or reason. Here is my questions 1. What do you mean about "10 days"? Is it a fix procedure you experiences? Is your website has been penalized for 10 days then back to its own serp as a fix cycle? I am wondering this since I never see such a fix procedure about the length of penalty. Each and every website could be penalized between one hour to lifetime. 2. Same above question for "every 6 months" and "sites under 3 years of age" as well. If all you said are a fixes then we might extract their steps out of the cloud finally.
I have a very high profile site that has been around for 5 years and some of the major keywords bounce around when I am link building to them, the best thing to do if you are link building to that keyword is to keep doing so. Google is testing to see if you will stop as a result of SEo, if you dont then it will assume your links are natural. Its very normal to drop and then come back stronger than before e.g. 5th -> 17th -> 3rd Just my opinion from experience and some very well know SEo guru's would back me on this.
This has some point and I do agree. I have experienced similar when one of my website dropped in ranking because of link built toward them. However, I did continue and the result was improved significantly. I would like to note one thing - quality does matter over quantity as always when it comes to link building.
It would be interesting to know the length of the time during which you observed this pattern. If the incident occurred just once or twice... it could be just coincidental and not worth further analysis! Regards, RightMan
I never come across such thing that google will give penalty to site below 3 years of age. I think what you are suffering from is google dance. Generate more backlink which will help you in one or other way to generate backlink and get a good SERP.
That is just a normal Google Dance. Google just update your backlinks. That's way your rankings are affected. In my experience from page 1 I'm drastically fall to page 9 then after a week or 2 I return back to page 1.
This is quite true, just keep building quality backlinks and add new orig content and things will be back soon.
