Is there any way by which one can find out the historical background of a domain name, i.e things like
    - who used to own the domain in history
    - when did it expired
    - when was it bought again and who bought it
    - when was it renewed etc...

I beleive whois.sc provides past whois data - but it's a service you need to pay for.

I dont know if whois.sc really shows first time bought the domain.

aside from whois.sc I also use waybackmachine.org to know the estimate date the site started.

    Cheers!:D

I am not interested in knowing when the site started, i wanted to know who were the people who used to own the domain previously.

PS - Is there a way to remove a site from waybackmachine.org

whois.sc only provide historical whois records IF a person looked at that whois on their system in the past. So if it is a an obscure domain, chances are they have nothing. If it is a big domain (say you want to look up Amazon's Whois history) than they will have it.

Yep, it's easy to do. http://www.archive.org/about/exclude.php

As for WHOIS history, WHOIS.sc is the best. Catalog.com also offers a service on a pay-per-record basis, though the results are sketchy sometimes.

I just read about a site that offers this kinda service - 2 days ago, I think. So...if you look up google in a few days...you might find anything.

Hmm, I'm not sure if this is exactly possible.
