It is pretty much the same as for secretaries - you hire them only when there are things you have no time for.
I hire them when I know what I want done but don't know how to do it. If I can spend 5 minutes hiring someone for a task or spend 5 hours learning it... Uh... no braner for me.

Its worth it as long as you hire the right people. Filipino virtual assistants are actually in demand. They speak decent english without the accent and can be easily trained for other stuffs needed to be done. Definitely worth it. Uh-just noticed that you are from the same country too.
It's always a gamble hiring someone without meeting them in person, and it can be hard to keep tabs on remote workers too. If you have a project that is very results-based, it can work well.
It depends on what you want them to do.... And it greatly depends on whether or not your a good teacher. And they must be a good, fast learner.
