Hello friends, As most of us dont know coding. so do I. I wanted to hire a coder (php) but the thing is how should i get rite one? I am looking at long term so that he can do modification etc when ever need. I know places like script lance, rent or get a coder etc. but the thing is most of freelancer over there are kids ( i mean new) and the start biding on your project and then later when you assign them a project they just run away or do not perform.. thus wasting our time. It happened with me many times... can anyone please advise what things should i consider or should check before I waste my time explaining to a person I hiring.. any suggestion or advise will be appreciated. regards icare
why not get one from a forum you frequent... like in dp? i'm sure many people here can code well... and if they are also regulars, they'll probably see the job through if they got the job from a thread here...
Use RentACoder.com. Post your problem there and wait for programmers to offer their services. For PHP you will most likely get at least 20 coders willing to do the project for you. Check what each coder has to say, see if he really read your details. Don't choose the cheapest. Some people are very good and work very cheap because they want to establish a reputation on the site but I wouldn't take the risk. Before posting your problem, see similar problems and how much other buyers are offering. Also, check in the coders details how much he usually chargesfor projects so that you have an ideea if he overcharges you or if he is a person that works cheap and low quality. Also, in his details you can see his reputation and what other buyers say about him.
I found my development team on rentacoder.com, but It took about a year and a lot of projects before I found the right ones. There are a lot of amateurs out there also. My tip is to assign the coder a small task first and see if he can handle it, and then give him bigger jobs. //Andreas
Hello, I can do asp.net coding for you. I'm more familiar with asp.net 1.1, and now starting at asp.net 2.0. If you're interested, please PM me, thanks!
I have few sites.. they need mods and also I keep on developing new ones. Wanted a long term relation. Sorry am looking for PHP coder
I'd suggest you try and post a request here. Look for people that have some age on this forum and a good reputation. There are highly skilled coders around that's for sure. The main thing is to prove them that their time is worth just as much as yours. I'm a coder, not an expert one, but I'm a speedy learner and I'm already building some sites for guys around here. The problem is that it takes pretty much all of my time and can't do anything else in terms of my own projects. Coders like to use their skills for themselves as well.
icare, Look php is not a single page, it is a very vast language. Coders need to be aware of databases and all! Check the coders' views Post your needs, not an exact idea, just your needs and see what coders have to say! Don't go with coders who use that same line to bid on all projects, "We are Blah Blah Infotechs from Blah Blah. We specialise in Web Design, Development and are well versed with most of the languages. We have read your project and understood everything, we know we can do this, Kindly choose us!" Am not saying all of these are , but most of them sure are people who dunno what they're writing, and when you tell them the actualy project they say this was not what they had bid for .... Go with someone, who debates your needs, offers you suggestions in the PM box and in what way he is gonna do it! Don't go with ridiculous bids, For example bidders 5$ for a custom script or alonf the likes Check their reviews! Reviews are not everything, but they sure do mean a lot! So check if someone has reviewed the person for a similar project as you! Don't Pay upfront! Many such freelance sites provide Escrow Services go with them and you'll be fine! If you paid for an original make sure it is one! Many Programmers I know have a habit of selling nulled scripts as their own! Be aware of them! Follow these guidelines and you should be fine! Yeah, what he said ^ Ask for references - call / email those references. Find out how long that web developer has worked with them. Find out exactly what that developer did for the websites. Did they totally rebuild it or maybe add a payment gateway? If anyone gives you a bid immediately, run. They don't have a full grasp of the site yet. It sometimes takes programmers a couple of weeks to fully understand your needs / wants. Find out how they do want to be paid - some will want a deposit up front. If they only use Paypal, are they verified? If they have a merchant account, you know that they have been checked out a bit more by someone.
thank for your tips! You guys have provided valuable tips.. I will follow that... @ Abhishek Thanks buddy nice tips...
I've been burned before hiring outside coders to do work. The last occurance cost me about $250. Get references that you can check up on. Get a phone number as well. If you've got no option but to provide a deposit, do it by check and send it certified/registered mail. In the end, you will at least have a phone number and confirmed address in case things go south.
