WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Three protesters disrupted a prayer by a Hindu chaplain Thursday at the opening of a Senate hearing, calling it an abomination and shouting slogans about Jesus Christ.

It was the first time the daily prayer that opens Senate proceedings was said by a Hindu chaplain.

Capitol police said two women and one man were arrested and charged with causing a disruption in the public gallery of the Senate. The three started shouting when guest Chaplain Rajan Zed, a Hindu from Nevada, began his prayer. VideoWatch the disruption »

They shouted "No Lord but Jesus Christ" and "There's only one true God," and used the term "abomination."

Religious figures from various faiths have said the prayer, which is normally recited by a Christian chaplain.

Barry Lynn, executive director of religious watchdog group Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said the protest showed the intolerance of the "religious right."

"I don't think the Senate should open with prayers, but if it's going to happen, the invocations ought to reflect the diversity of the American people," Lynn said in a statement.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had invited Zed.

"I think it speaks well of our country that someone representing the faith of about a billion people comes here and can speak in communication with our heavenly father regarding peace," he said after the disruption.

America was founded on christian principles , well now it is no longer the case. If you look at the currency it says "In God we Trust", it has changed now, God is taken out every where, well we will learn a lesson soon

Ez, as on your other thread re: Christian Nation, I am curious where you get this idea. Do you have some sources for this contention, that America was founded on Christian principles?

On one hand, I don't see the issue with it. The Hindu people are good people.
But on the other hand, I find it hard to believe that a scumbag like Harry Reid did this for any other reason than to piss people off.

If he started with a Muslim prayer, then yes, I'd be pissed too. But I really don't see the issue with a Hindu prayer. You know India lets different religious prayers in their official government meetings? They also give national holidays for Muslims, Christians, Jews, and others.

I take it that you hate me because I am Muslim. Also, you don't know what a Muslim prayer means.

Also, India being a multicultural society it has public holidays for Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jains and Zoroastrians. Not Jews, why? Because majority of them have fled to Israel and the rest are intermarried.

    I don't hate you, I don't even know you.
But I also don't particularly like religion, especially Islam.
You can take that however you like.

Okay if we go with the same thinking, you don't know what Islam is about - why hate it? Just because you see it all over the news? Or is it a fad?

It's a fad that started when your religion of peace attacked my country.
And don't give me the bullshit about us being affiliated with the Jews. Your people are killing people across the world that have nothing to do with Israel.
Look at the wars across the world and you can find Muslims on one side or another, sometimes both sides of the war. Now is that a coincidence or is your religion just sick? It's just sick IMO. But that's just the opinion of a dirty infidel, so don't take it too seriously.

Why do you assume that I will call you a dirty infidel? That's just ignorance.

It wasn't my religion that attacked your country. It was a group of people who attacked your country. A religion cannot attack a country... Looking at the wars across the world for the most part America was involved. Or if your British just goto your local library.

It was your religion that attacked us. It is your religion that grows extremists and promotes hate.

Please explain why there are Muslims fighting in every conflict that has started in the last 10 years. Coincidence? Or is this the start of Islam trying to put the world under sharia law just as they say they are trying to do?

Many of those conflicts that you mentioned above were first implemented by none other than your friendly America/Britain. It's a shame you list the Iraq war when you very well know that America and its allies invaded the country and shattered it to pieces. What else other than RESISTANCE do you expect? I guess you guys have not gained anything from Vietnam.

War in Afghanistan? Just look at how well supplied the Mujahideen were by the Americans to fight off the Soviets, now that they kicked them out they want to kick the Americans' allies as well. RESISTANCE, learn to spell it and learn to accept it.

Hamas and Fatah? That's a creation by your friendly Israel. If Israel never invaded Palestine (wait wasn't it Europe who decided that) these Palestinians would at least have LIVES. Israel has bulldozed Palestinians' homes and/or just "EVICTED" them out and started living there. What the hell do you think a people with no arms would do? They will go for the suicide bombings because AK-47s would do nothing against F-16s. If you let a people live in their place and not treat them as dogs, maybe there would be peace. Don't you think?

The Lebanon conflict, who started it? Hezbollah or Israel? I am not sure but it looks like Israel can bomb the shit out of the country only for one soldier of theirs but when the other country calls for defense, Israel goes crying to their friendly American and British allies. Oh "thousands of rockets landing in our streets blah blah blah" how many lives did they take compared to the fighter jets bombing Lebanon into pieces. Israel can't stand a country in their region progressing.

For all those other conflicts, they have no relevance in your "bashing Islam for everything mentality", why you ask? Simple, every group has its own problems. Stop trying to solve them because you don't belong to that group, the more you "TRY", the more you cause havoc. Stop it. Let them do what they want to do. Did the Muslims come to help America when they were fighting South vs North? No I don't think so. The Irish fought within their country. The Germans too. The Sri Lankans too. The Indians too. What do you want me to list the history?

Seriously people need to read and understand history and then come to the realization that this world doesn't function around a post or two in DP or the WWW. Read the news from various sources. Understand what each side is saying. Then come to the conclusion of who to blame.

PS: ly2, I don't hate you, this is just some healthy discussion if you like. :)

You're right. Everything is America and Israels fault.
Islam really is the religion of peace. If everyone would just convert, there would be no problem, right?

What? I simply pointed out you were trying to place the blame for what Islam does on America and Israel.
That's enough to make you give up?

You shouldn't be surprised it didn't work, most of the Muslims here use it often to try and blame other countries/religions for the death and destruction their sick religion causes.
