    I wouldn't really buy a book on SEO, most are outdated. Read the forums here and you can get a pretty good idea on what is involved.

    Do you know HTML? If not, I would recommend learning that before starting SEO to help optimize your site better.

    Forums is a good way to supplement a book.

    Try SEO eBooks site, it has a free ebook there :)
