Higher SERP with lower PR, IBLs, Indexed Pages

    Hey guys,

So, I know that there's many different Google Datacenters, and results between them will vary slightly, but why is this...

I searched the word 'Foremost' in google. The company I work for is Foremost Groups, Inc., and were usually #4 in google for that keyword.

But once in a while, there's two sites that jump above mine in google (ForemostMachinery.com and WebsterOnlineDictionary definition of Foremost).

Why in the world would foremostmachinery.com ever rank higher than my site? All my site's numbers are higher (see image). Our site is PR4, they're PR3. We have 361 indexed pages, they have 225. We have almost double the amount of inbound links according to Yahoo Site Explorer.

I realize that some of their IBLs may be from higher authority sites, but wouldn't that give them higher PR too? I don't get it.

    Any thoughts on this?

This can be due to so many different factors, the question is how often does this happen and how long does it last for? Due to algorithmic changes this can happen sometimes, also sometimes data centers are down or possiblily updating and are pulling data from another one. I would suggest building more relevant quality backlinks to the web page showing up for these search results; use as anchor text the phrase your searching.

It doesn't happen much, and it's not really a big deal because I'm searching the KW 'Foremost', which is not really a targeted keyword for my site (it probably shouldn't be for any site). But I notice this happening for a day or two at least every other week. Strange.

I use the keyword 'foremost' to check my rank because I figure that if I'm ranking higher for that keyword, then I should be ranking better for most other keywords (is that logical?). When I started at this company about 10 months ago, we started at position 9-12 for this keyword and now we're pretty consistently at #4. I've never been able to break position 3.
