High serps, but no traffic???

    As a sort of experiment a created a website that was search engine optomized for one keyword phrase. The keyword is "retirement dinner speeches" . According to wordtracker, this term gets searched like 600 times a day http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/?seed=retirement+dinner+speeches&adult_filter=remove_offensive . So how come, my site ( http://www.retirementdinnerspeeches.com ) is fourth on the serps for google, yet is getting only like 15 visitors a day?

    What am I missing here? Is wordtracker really that flawed? I have optomized sites using wordtracker before, and I usually get more visitors than expected without even being one of the first results on google.

    You can only put so much trust into those keyword searches. Sometimes they are accurate, and other times you wonder where in the world they got their numbers from. I searched the term using Google Trends, and there is not enough searches to even make it on the graph, it's probably searched anywhere from 0-50 times a day.

    Last I checked, Wordtracker can be very inaccurate... you have to test to see what type of results you get. Typically though, when I use that tool (the free one on Seobook.com) the terms with that many searches bring me more traffic than 15 per day, especially as a #1 term.

    Is your site new? how many months has it been in Google?

    I have noticed that for new sites it's really hard to get any traffic, you can rank high for a particular search term if you focus hard on it "retirement dinner speeches" but you won't rank for any variations of it, and there definetly will be if you have good content on your site.

    It's like at some point, usually after 1 year Google flips a switch and allows you to start receving traffic, I have noticed this for all of my sites. I even suspect the switch allows you to receive more traffic for the term you are ranking high for, somehow I think that your site doesn't show all the time for "retirement dinner speeches", that's my theory, perhaps it shows to some ISP's but no others (just joking but not impossible!)

    I used to rank high for terms that I thought were popular only to receive a little traffic per day, then 1 month it exploded and I started receiving tons of traffic with variations on that term and other phrases related to my site.

    you probably optimized for the wrong keyword. it probably means that no one is searching for your particular keyword.

    Well, the first thing that I noticed when I searched your phrase was that my eye was immediately drawn to the #3 site

    ~~~~~~
    5250+ Speech Topics
    After dinner speech topics including 27 ideas the golden rules for an after ... Retirement speech topics 10 for the retiree and 8 ideas if someone else is
    ~~~~~~

    Maybe your title/description isnt very appealing to the people searching that term? If I was searching for retirement speeches, that title would be a lot more appealing to me than the one you have right now.

    Maybe no one can afford to retire....

    Agree, that number 3 site draws me in more than your summary. He has 290 indexed pages to your 4.

    It's just because, you did not put those keywords which are not having traffic from SE's.
    You can even get listed on 1st place on the keyword which has billions of competitions but not having traffic, but it really tough to rank on keyword for which less competition is there but have so much traffic for it and advertiser competition also.

    I would appreciate it if people actually read the thread before making responses. And what is "you are getting 15 visitors. Thats enough for you" supposed to mean. Anyways, thanks for the opinions of people who actually read the thread and had some info to add.

    Try Google Trends, I use this tool always. I compare any keyword with some other keyword for which i am #1 and then i know how much traffic to expect.

    Free Keyword Tool always shows much more search volume that actual search volume.

    I don't understand where did wordtracker and keyword discovery get their data. Keyword discovery tells that your keyword has only 4 searches per month.

    Another thing that you need to consider is that when you use any sort of software to check a ranking that it will also count as a search query in Word Tracker. Let say you have 10 people in the world that may be targeting that phrase or a variation of that phrase. They plug that phrase into their SERP ranking software and send out queries to all of the search engines to see where they rank for that term. Those queries will count as searches but are in fact just a small bot or program (SEO Eilte, IBP etc) that are submitting the search query. Word Tracker doesn't differentiate between a bot query or a user because it can't. It is just grabbing data from the meta crawlers and compiling it. That would account for low visitor count even with a #1 ranking. Word tracker may be showing 600 queries per day but it may in fact be much much lower.
