    I wouldn't focus too much on getting links from forums.

    They can be good for sharing your content with the right audience, but the links are fairly worthless. They won't do much (if anything) to help your search ranking.

    Google has released updates that allow them to differentiate between links in regular content and user generated links.

    If you can make the link yourself (by adding it to your profile, putting it in a blog comment, or using it in a forum signature), they won't give it much credit. Your time is better spent building links elsewhere.

    Forum is always important for driving high quality traffic not only for affiliated marketing but also organic seo.If you do on-page seo then high page rank will helpful for your website ranking and generating traffic.

    You will be better off doing a google search rather than relying on people dumping lists of forums which may not exist anymore, may have changed to no follow etc.

    FWIW if you have a list to share with @itexpert2050 send it via conversation.

    BTW I love how you think it'll take 34 years to get to be an expert!!!

    Yes focus on research and build backlinks in a place where they will help you get some juice for your website. Most of the forums are nofollow links only because, many would just post one liner comments, only to get their links in the signature and it was a huge burden for the admins to keep monitoring such people. I guess Google made their work easier :)
