Hey all, I have analyze my two websites, for which i got PR update like: for the first one i have got PR 1 and back links are 61. for the second one i have got PR 2 and back links are only 4. First one had more Relevant seo work than second one though... So from this i think as there is no relation between back links and PR.
64 backlinks?? What tool did you used to indicate backlinks? Try this one ->http://www.backlinkwatch.com. I know that quality links will surely give you higher PR but for just mere 64 backlinks??? It surely can't be detected by backlinkwatch. Anyways, could you post your site so that I can see it for myself.. Thanks.
But only 4 Back links shown by Google are Enough to achieve PR 2? As per Enous said he has 1900 back links and PR is 4, now i need only 4 more back links to achieve PR 4 if the quality of links matters.
I have been thinking. Are relevant backlinks so important? Can your site be penalized for irrelevant backlinks? If that is true then your competitors could link your site with hundreds of irrelevant sites to make your ranking go down and down. In my opinion Google has in mind that some companies might do it, so I think that irrelevant links cannot do any harm to your site. But it propably will not improve your ranking as well. Kind Regards
Internal link structure is also important! Like back links pointing to say your index page, its the same case with your internal links. Like the few have said Quality Over Quantity.
I agree that backlink is not much impact to improve PR. In my case, I have blog that only 2 backlinks but has PR3.
PageRank is a measure of both the quantity and quality of the links that point to a page. Go and read any explanation of the original PageRank formula and you'll see why simply counting links will not tell you anything significant about PageRank. Start at http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html which is a bit technical, but has all of the information you need to know to understand how PageRank works.
google doesn't even do it the right way anymore, before it was based on quality backlinks, then they penalized you for outgoing links and dropped you even if you had a 100k good backlinks i've seen sites with under a 100 backlinks getting PR5 before and sites that should be PR5 are PR1 or PR2 and some even PR3
Keep in mind that Google hides the majority of links. Use Yahoo to obtain a more accurate number of backlinks.
I hope you won't be having trouble trying to rank your site on google later on with that opinion. good luck.
Yes i know it seems to be funny, but i have got the exact reply from MikePrice Thanks for your comments.
Quality back links from relevant sources that are updated frequently are the ones that you have to work on in order to get good results
