    "Link Building" is not looked upon kindly by Google and other search engines these days, either. Big mistake to get a lot of links from irrelevant sites.

    Forget about high page rank sites, instead look for relevant niche site where you can link your site to.
    Create profiles on blog or forum communities (only on relevant sites), start from there. But don't just leave links on the sites, engage as well.
