Honestly, it doesn't matter. You can take any theme & make adjustments. I never use those AdSense themes & most of them look like crap anyway.

If you have an ugly theme your CTW will go up because people will want a better site :p lol.

A few years ago a friend's host upgraded to php5 and his database calls stopped working so his pages were blank with ads. The CTR skyrocketed while he fixed it.

I can totally see this. But...the profits gained in this manner will be short-lived. A lot of the times, more ads on a page will result in a higher click-through rate, but will result in more people leaving your site, and fewer people linking to your site, bookmarking it, or returning to it.

In my experience, I use Thesis, and it works well with Adsense, also take care of the placement of my ads is also affecting my adsense earning..

Oh yes, when i had about 50 visitors a day a few months ago, with the same amount of clicks now, i earn much more with 1200+ visitors a day, so total SE visitors also matter, IMO.

Have you tried "Adsense Pro Ultimate"? I have been using for quite some time with great success, with CTR as much as 6-7%...

Just customize some general free theme, and you can get fantastic results...
Avoid using themes built especially for getting High CTR and advertised as such to avoid possible banning..!

I would suggest Clickbump if you are looking for paid themes and Bluesense for free ones.

    Hello,

You can use " CTR Themes " for getting good CTR. We use this theme for making our client's EMDs Blogs and Micro Niche Blogs. These are clean and integrated with SEO Tools but you can use the other SEO Tools like " AIO SEO or Yoast "
