High availability hosting??

    Hello,

does anyone know a good, reasonably priced high -availability hosting service? I mean, some host who doesn't offer the "99.999% Uptime or your money back - we cannot be held responsible for consequential damages" sort of stuff, but one that actually has 100% uptime, long proven record, and, if possible, hosts sites on at least two redundant servers so that in the event of downtime visitors can still reach us?

We've tried Lunarpages at US$25/month for a while due to their low price, but they only have around 98.5% uptime (which still translates into over 10 hours downtime per month) and for whatever reason seem to eat our emails, which I don't think quite good enough :( Well... I guess you get what you pay for...

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Have a read at the Forum in my Signature...there are quite a few good hosts there.
If you can't one that suits PM me and I will find out if my host can accommodate you.

I can recommend my absolute favorite hosting company - ICDSoft.com.

I am literally amazed at their up-time, customer service (always get a response within 15 minutes, regardless of the time of day), ease of use, control panel, the services they offer, etc. etc. etc. I would pick these guys a thousand times over. They use AWStats too which I'm pretty happy with in regards to monitoring my SEO efforts.

    Good luck.

There are hosts who will give you genuine 100% uptime guarantees, but they don't come cheap as they tend to provide this type of service over 2-3 datacentres for absolute redundancy (the only way to offer genuine 100% uptime).

I don't think you'll ever get around the "consequential damages" part. A host will not take on unlimited and unfettered liabilities in hosting your site. If they did agree you'd be looking at either an insurance-backed guarantee or be paying substantial amounts of money (expect a 5-figure monthly cost) for them to take on this liability, which isn't in your current budget.

You need to be somewhat realistic when you don't have an unlimited budget. Choose a host who can prove long-term uptime and one that you know will respond quickly when things go wrong and FIX them quickly, rather than expect 100% perfection every single time. Will a few minutes of downtime once a year, or in the early hours when your site is quiet, really make that much difference to you?

Try cloud hosting. It’ is not like dedicated hosting, and VPS or shared hosting. Its a hybrid. And basically the advantage of cloud hosting is that the customer never pay for more hosting than they really need.

I dont think it is actually possible to continuously provide 100% uptime as there has to be some down time some when due to maintenance and upgrades to there systems as we all know servers are just computers in the end and what are computer widely know for the most common known issues with computers are crashing and upgrades needed why well crashes can have a very wide range of reasons but the reason for upgrades is always the the same it is technology and technology is forever changing which forces the hosting providers to also continuously change their systems which means down time so I really dont believe there is such a thing as an actual host who can provide true 100% uptime
