High Apache Connections and Httpd Processes?

    Hi Friends,

    We are running an SMF site on a VPS Plan and our problem is that the memory usage always reaches 100 %. There is only one website in this VPS. Memory ram is 256. Here's the message of the host:

    But the load on the VPS was very high due to the high apache connections. The httpd processes are consuming much resources. As we do not provide support for code optimization you have to contact your site developer and optimize your scripts to reduces the resource usage.

    Why are there high apache connections?
    How to optimize these httpd processes?
