Hiding tweets with the @HideChat method?

    Hey guys!

Situation: let's say I just won a major price and about 25 followers say congrats!, Great job etc... I want to be polite and say things like, thank you very much, hope to see you again! etc. But as we all know, the rest of my followers will get a list of tweets me thanking other people and that is extremely annoying as I also don't like to see these kind of chats/tweets.
So I searched on google for tools to hide chats and well, I founded a blog with a interesting solution. So I tried the @HideChat method with my brother to see how he will perceive my tweets. He gets a @mention with my tweet starting with @HideChat @mybrother blablabla... I've read somewhere that the @HideChat would be hidden... that was not true so I was kinda disappointed in that because it doesn't really look friendly if your friend see that you want to hide he's/your tweet. I know for 99% sure that there are people hiding these kind of tweets from there timeline's so here are my questions.

    1) Are they using the @hidechat method or is there an other way?
    2) Who can see your @hidechat tweet?

it would be a pleasure if you could help me!

    Greetings
