I hope this is the right section so here goes. I plan on making a website selling products similar to web page designs/layouts. (It's not but this is the closest thing I can think of ) Basically I was wondering if there is a way to stop people stealing the images/coding and making the pages themselves without paying anything. Would disabling the right click be the easiest solution? Or would it be encripting the coding? If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate them. Richard
Please Please Please, don't disable the right click. It is soo easy to bypass, (simpky turn js off!) Likewise, encrypting the coding will not stop somebody that is determined. You have to understand, anything you put on the internet I am able to take if I want, so I wouldn't bother even trying to stop me. The only suggestion I could make to you would be to watermark the images, however that again will not stop the determined.
I understand that if someone wanted to they could, I just wanted to implement something to try and aviod it. I guess I may have to try and go with the honest approach and hope people won't do it
I'd suggest creating thumbnails or at least smaller versions of the sites you're selling with a watermark on them and maybe do it so that when they've paid an email will get sent to them with the files they've just bought? So instead of them downloading it directly from the site, an email with the files will be sent to them once they've paid.
I've got a shopping cart which will allow them to download the product after paying via a client area. Just I wanted to give them a live demo so they can check it out before they buy it.
Honesty is the best policy All I can say is that if i am browsing a site and the right click is disabled, i run like hell....
I think I would be the same but something in the back of my mind wants to safeguard myself against people taking the easy option. I think an easy way around it would be to provide a screenshot opposed to a live demo, I'll have to have a think about it. Richard
Screenshot's the better idea... there are those out there who, while vaguely interested in your product, will consider it a fun thing to go hunting for files if they see you're actively trying to block them. Anything the browser can see, the user can take. Videos are a little harder sometimes but I think the screenshot thing is a good idea... You might want to check out TemplateMonster and see how they show their samples. For their Flash sites, you do get to see a working model, but it's still a model, and still not full-size, which seems to be a good system for them.
That's only good for stopping people hotlinking to the files (i.e leaching from your server) and will do nothing to stop someone coping the files and hosting them themselves.
