    I read recently that someone wanted to hide the referrer from the affiliate network. What exactly do they mean by this? How can you achieve this?

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Affiliate networks need to know who refers the visitors otherwise they cant track their commission.

    Are you sure they didn't mean hiding the tracking code from the visitors to raise CTR%? This can be done a number of ways using PHP or using the mouseover command.

    At least, I think this is what they mean :)

    I think it is more about not letting the affiliate network know what your original traffic source was - bit like money laundering but rather traffic laundering!

    e.g. Traffic Source X --> Affiliate Network

    Here they can see where the traffic came from. It passes some kind of referrer information, but I am not sure how it works.

    Can you add an intermediate page so it is like this?

    Traffic Source X --> Landing Page --> Affiliate Network

    Will Traffic Source X be completely invisible under these circumstances?

    I believe so... It's not really traffic laundering, hiding, etc. though. You can generate traffic for your site at will... However, if you're breaking the TOS for your affiliate and they find out you're still sunk. Use only valid promotional methods and you'll be fine.
