Yes I have a few links I am hiding with negative spacing and so far the SE's haven't picked up on it.

I am curious though if other people are still using this or if they have been burned?

I have been definitely burned by hiding links. As soon as a saw my site drop off of Google and Yahoo. I examined cache and noticed that the SE saw picked up on the hidden links which is against the rules and i had to fix and plead my case to get back on there.

Right now they are just inline styles.

It's one of common SEO rules - Not to hide links. Search engines sooner or later will remove your indexed pages.
