Hiding hoplinks

Ok , I'm not new to this game ,well maybe in this one aspect I am :/

I have decent organic results with 30-50/k uniques/mth.

One thing I keep coming across is cloaking CB links.

Is this done for SEO or just for esthetics?

Is the hoplink a "bad" URL?

I'v never used any code to hide any affliliate links, mainly because my sites have no banners and almost zero script usage. Google loves this.

One new thing I have done is dedicate a page eg: mysite.com/forward and that page just immediately forwards to the publishers site. Instead of using hop.clickbank.net it first goes to a sub page. Is this a better idea, or does the meta refresh redirect a no no SEO -wise?

    Please, enlighten me

I'd forward my hop link by masking it.

The main reason I've seen for 'cloaking' a hoplink is because of the hoplink structure, it makes it easy for someone to right-click and copy that url but remove your username and replace it with theres or replace it with just jibberish. while most users wouldn't even think of doing it it could happen.

Also cloaking makes it not look like an advertisement the user would rather see yoursite.com/productname than hop.clickbank.net/?tid=dfsfdsfsd

    Purely esthetics...

But for the paranoid it does offer better affiliate protection.

Personally, I always cloak my links.;)

I always run my links through tinyurl or forward it from my own site, depending on how productive I feel at the time I'm building the site. I've found that doing so definitely improves the CTR, especially when you're promoting tech-related products.

    "definitely improves the CTR"

Adwords doesn't allow redirect. How then can you use tinyurl to hide your affiliate links?

I don't understand your question. When someone uses AdWords you don't need to use a redirect. In the display url you put the landing page url. And in the destination URL you put the hoplink. There is no need to use redirects with adwords.

Yes, that's the basic way how all affiliates do. But you know, if you would have a normal landing page, instead of affiliate link you could get cheaper clicks?

So I am wondering how people use tinyurl, if it's not allowed
