Hi there, lurker here, introducing myself for the first time

I have been here a few weeks now, and have even made some replies in some threads. But never actually introduced myself, or participated in DP.

I want to earn some money writing, and and for that have been lurking in the BST -> Content Services section for some time now. I find that the rates here are pretty low-ball btw. I have experience with Elance, and usually the minimum rates that are applied there are about $1/100 words, but here people offer already-written articles for less than half that. And this is not just non-native writers, I have even seen native writers offer their services for less. I wonder how they can manage to do it. For example, a new article takes time to research, and then to write, and then to re-read and proofread it. How can people work for $0.50/100 words is something I would like to hear about.

I also want to start my own site - to do that passive income thing as they call it. Right now I am not even sure about what topic. And given I know next to nothing about promotion, and afiliates ( I know of them only as buzzwords), it will take some time for me toget there. I hope to use DP to learn more about that.

I want to learn more about web-hosting, affiliates, promoting and managing a website.
