Looks good so far.

My sugestions

1) You have way way way to many categories for a new forum. You will not be able to fill them and it will give the impression of a dead forum. No one wants to be on a dead forum usually.
2) I would not suggest advertising for moderators at this point. Get the user's/traffic then worry about that stage.
3) You should get some custom graphics/logo's with your sitename. This will help creating branding and name recognition for your site. Carry your sports theme into your site theme.
4) Get more Front page content, without it your site may appear dead.

I can prob go on but this is prob enough to get started.

I think it looks good, are you going to put a logo or something in the header instead of phpbb?

 

you need to have a logo on top, its still default phpbb logo, change it quick,
make changes with design or use different skins other then default ,

yes, i think you have too many forums and you should combine alot of them until your threads start getting out of hand
