Hi and thankyou for checking out my thread. My name is lee and i'm already fairly skilled at coding in xhtml/css and i also have a lot of experience converting website designs into wordpress themes. However i am required to convert a design into a joomla template, i have done this once before but i found it hard to get the layout how i needed it so, what i want to know is how do i get joomla to behave how i want it to.

I am aware that there are a number of variables that joomla uses to display the content, for instance i know it's possible to make only 2 columns and not 3 appear all from the admin backend so i am also wondering is it something to do with that? Do i need to create custom modules or what?? I need to be able to do more than just have 2 columns or 3 columns

If you need any more info please just ask as i'm trying to keep it brief.

Thanks for any information or ideas that lead to me figuring this out.

I'm trying to get a layout like this h*ttp://img3.imageshack.us/*img3/6954/layoutrequest*.jpg

I know how to do that, what i'm asking is how to get it to display several boxes on my main page, all displaying 5 of the latest articles for their given category including thumbnails, a title and a article preview.

I don't like the basic layout of joomla, as in:

    Header
    Nav
left sidebar - content - right sidebar
    footer

What i want to know how to do is, how to re organize the content and how that is displayed, not the sidebars or other main elements.
