I run a website that has no age limit on its signups - the site has a very large userbase, and about 10% of its users are under 18

We are planning to make the site only available for 18 and older so that we can show adult ads..but would we have to make the site 21 and older to show people in the US adult ads?

And how could we sort out the situation..as we would still have members who were underage ..would we have to delete them all

    Thanks in advance

As for I am concerned 18 is enough, but In US the situation may be different

as some sites tell you that you should be above 21 years of age

Can you serve different ads depending on user's age?

The only "21 and over" restriction I'm aware of in the U.S. is regarding the legal drinking age.

Isn't it 18+ or based on the rules where they live? I don't think 21+ is a "US thing", but it might apply to certain states or cities or something. Not sure exactly how it works, but I believe some localities have more strict rules than the general 18+ thing.

A little disclaimer that says something like "you are required to be 18 years of age or older to use this website" should be enough.

Just modify whatever script you're using so that when a member logs in they will need to update their age before they can proceed, and don't provide any year prior to 1988. I have a feeling many of your under-18 members will no longer be under 18;) :D
