I've been writing articles here on DP for over a year now and have been trying to "break the surface" and find other writing jobs that would allow me to earn more. Writing have always been a part of my life since I don't know when. When I realized that I could actually earn from writing, I jumped at the opportunity right away.

I love researching but I hate it when I'm given time limit. Like, 15 articles in 2 days? And for less than $5 each? That sucks. Mind you, I didn't accept that job although I would've loved to write those software-related articles.

I don't really mind writing for less than what I deserve because each article allows me to learn something new. It's just now that I've learned about genital piercings... at my age! LOL

Anyway, here I am asking for your opinions about my writing skills. What areas do I need improving and how do I market myself and... if it's possible... How much do you think I'm worth per hour or per word? :) *I can't find a nervous smiley*

Do check the links on my signature to check both my personal blog and the site that I present to customers. Thank you very much. *shivers*

Just thought I'd bring it to your notice, I found a couple of grammatical errors in your post. Don't know if they were typos.

I haven't checked the links in your sig but I think your style and voice are pretty decent. And there's no way for anyone but yourself to tell you how much you are "worth". It all depends on how well you market yourself. While basic spelling and grammar are indispensable, I've seen many writers with terrible writing skills beat me at a bid (real, offline ones) only with their marketing and presentation. Competitive pricing is really good for business but make sure you don't undervalue yourself. Also, since you already have a website (I think), you could try posting some free ads. Some writers I know tell me ad posting works really well even for established professionals. Then you could also give away content which will add to your credibility and reputation.

If you're presenting yourself print publishers, I'd suggest reading some books on social interactions. Even if you aren't approaching offline prospects, these books can really help you understand people. After all, all marketing is rooted in psychology.

    Cheers

I recommend you specialize. Stop writing general articles if you can help it. Pick one subject you have passion for and stick with it.

Also think about starting your own blog or website. If you truly are a good writer, you will get good traffic. And that, better than anything, is a great sample. And will thus get you more money per writing job.

A couple of quick points -

Your business website has a few grammatical errors. Here are a couple that caught my eye.

We are passionate writers and it shows on our writings. We both come from different backgrounds therefore we have different expertise.

Plus, the lack of punctuation is glaring.

There are more grammatical errors (or typos, I am not sure which) in the samples on your Portfolio page. That's a major problem as far as marketing your services is concerned. If a client is looking to pay higher than average rates, small things like these could catch his eye, which ends the possibility of you getting the job right there.

You seem to have the right attitude (you're being brave enough to expose yourself to criticism, no matter how constructive - a big plus right there!!). :)Just work hard on your editing and proofreading skills. A grammar handbook for whenever you're in doubt is also a great idea.

    Hi

I agree with most of the above. I think you're very brave for inviting feedback.

'I don't really mind writing for less than what I deserve'

Now that threw a hiccup in my head. You don't mind writing for less than what you deserve?

I've gone for less than what I'm worth more times than I care to mention and I definitely mind. It makes me feel like do-do everytime.

I really like the article in your portfolio (The Magic of Positivity) but perhaps the text could be a bit bigger.

I like your personal blog too. I'd be happy to swap links with you if you want. PM me.

Good luck whatever you choose to do with your writing. You will find your niche. I'd say make a note of everything you like writing about and pick your top 3, then take it from there.

    take care...
