What to say, what to leave out?

I'm a former & current webmaster. I worked as a webmaster for pay in 1998 using classic ASP (Yes, it's that old) then did very little web building (possibly one or two simple sites for myself each year) until late last year.

In 2005 I started acquiring domain names with the intention of creating simple sites (I don't think the term "mini-sites" was well known then) on them and either running them or selling. I got caught up in acquisition (I think it was the thrill of the chase) and never built anything. Over the last 5 years I've acquired a nearly 2000 generic domain names and I have pretensions to be a domainer, but I've never given up my day job so it's always been a sideline.

Last year my fiancée started a baking business and I did a simple php based website for her, this encouraged me to get on my chair and start developing my portfolio. I've done a few by hand, and dabbled with getting others quickly developed and have settled down on analysing the names, defining the pages to be written, outsourcing the text writing then creating (I tend to term it "Throwing together") the website myself. Since October I've launched around 60 simple sites and have another 8 or 9 in the pipe-line.

About 1/2 the 60 sites are text only and still need prettying up. That's in progress, and I'm here to pick up tips in a few areas I've identified where those tips are highly likely to be useful. I have to be careful because I need techniques and tools that scale well.

If my history is anything to go by, I'll probably stick around after meeting my initial needs and will give my opinion where relevant. My viewpoint and hence my opinions are likely to contrast with those or many others because its' been 11 years since anyone paid me to do a website, I've paid others to develop websites, I concentrate on small sites for my own purposes and most important I'm interested in techniques that scale. Hopefully the different viewpoint will be useful to others.

    Hello.

Thanks Sarah, I'll bookmark you for when (not if) I need some help learning my way around here.

Hopefully I'll be able to pay back (or pay forward) the favour at some stage.

Thanks also to James & spidersense101 for the welcomes.
