Hi! A few questions about the site/industry.

    Hello All,

    My name is Scott. I currently reside in Northern New Jersey for the summers and in Pennsylvania during the rest of year where I attend college at Lehigh University. I'm dual majoring in Finance and Accounting. I was referred to this website through an explanation about domain "flipping".

    It's nice to meet everyone!

    I have a few general questions: What is the demand/outlook for undeveloped domains? I've perused through the forums a bit and noticed that most of the websites for sale are already set up to provide some service or product. Is there a market for domains that have been bought and remain undeveloped?

    I think the number of undeveloped domains being bought and sold in the market is a lot, lot higher than the number of websites

    If you have quality domain names it doesn't necessarily matter if they are developed or not. An undeveloped "quality" domain name can be worth just as much if not more than a developed domain.

    I checked out the domain buying forum in the BST section, but I'm still a little confused...

    What makes the value of an unregistered domain higher than what it is purchased for? Is the point of holding undeveloped domains to hope that one day a person/company offers a lot for them? Also, how do you build up a domain's page rank? I'm in no way trying to get wealthy from this, but I am trying to see some extra income.

    Can anyone help me out?

    AFAIK, undeveloped domains bought for the sake of keeping and selling. That's why there's so hard to find new domain names.

    I read once on an ad in Wall Street Journal Asia someone selling security.com for $ 400,000

    However I think the best policy is buying domains for the sake of developing them. If you plan to sell afterwards, you can sell it way higher than your buying and maintenance cost. That is if it gets lots of traffic and High PR

    You can look around here for how to increase traffic and PR, since the resources are plenty.
