Okay, I wanted to get some feedback on my idea. I started a blog off this domain that I bought a while back for a project me and another person were supposed to do together. We registered SINMinX.com but it's been sitting around doing nothing for me while I get progressively poorer.. soo.. I thought of a service I could sell since I have ghostwriting lyrics experience. I put a blog on that domain, making SINMinX stand for "Stamina + Innovation = New Millionaire in X?" with X being the unknown amount of time it'll take me to reach my goal of making ONE MILLION DOLLARS by charging one dollar per line of poetry (with a 5 line minimum). So I'd basically write a poem for a company (or individual or group) and place that on the site, being linked into it by a button of their choosing (company logo or whatever they want) on the front page (not the blog, but a front page crowded with a vast array of these buttons the surfer can hit when they arrive, each button leading to a seperate poem). Then on the poem there would be an advertisement along with a link that links to whatever the buyer of the poem wanted (their company site or Facebook profile, whatever). Follow me so far? Basically, I intend to keep the site up indefinitely, thereby providing the 'sponsors' (people who pay for me to write the poetry) with a link for however long the site stays up. Which isn't too bad for $5.00 minimum, I think. It also would entertain the hell out of me when I'm bored, too. So that's what I've got in mind.. I wrote up an FAQ (which is also on the site).. I'd love you guys feedback because I've already set up the blog and I'm ready to start writing poems! That's the idea in total... lemme know what you guys think! Is it fun? Would you want to visit something like that? If you ran a business would you buy a link? Thanks for taking the time to read this
Ghost song-writing? Poetry? Don't mean to rain on your program, but with all the musicians and rock star wannabe's out there, I don't see it happening as a website. Now maybe if you built a site about the wannabe's and their struggles, that might catch on.
Thanks for chiming in! I appreciate your speaking up. Any opinion is okay and I see where you're coming from.. sooo.. we'll see, eh?
Well, anything is worth a try! You never know until you do. An old quote - "Nevermind the naysayers." Good luck.
It sounds like you dug up milliondollarhomepage, raped the battered corpse and squeezed the last dollar out of its decaying flesh. Seriously Internet peoples, let's leave the whole 'million dollar' thing to 2005.
Selfhelpebooks: Thank you for the support! I'm going to set up an E-bay auction for the first three spots that will offer a larger button for those first three sponsors. Maybe that'll get 'er flowing. Blitz: I've certainly heard of that idea with the pixel ads? I thought it was pretty genius. Same with the Red Paperclip guy. And even tho you're not into the idea thanks for atleast making your post funny! You're the first to pronounce me a digital necrophiliac! haha
Go forward with it. See if it works out. If after some time you don't get any results. Drop it. I personally don't think the idea has any fuel, but every idea needs to be given a chance.
No problems. It was genius, (partly due to the PR management, but that's another thread) so genius that it spun off about 1000 copies, some with slight variations, others with no originality. The problem is, things like that only happen once. MDHP: Struggling student looking to raise $1m through pixel ads on his site. SINMinX: Struggling artist looking to raise $1m through poetry ads on his site. By no means am I saying it'll never work, and my definition may not be 100% accurate, but I would definitely look further into the whole MDHP 'phenomenon' before you plunge money, time and effort into this project. Goodluck in whatever you decide to do though of course.
lightless: Absolutely! I just got my first sponsor, also. Thanks everyone for being so responsive, it means alot to me! I'll post the url for the YouTube videos as soon as they go live
Blitz: You make a valid point No offense taken, either. I'm not thinking I'm too much of a genius, I'd just like to see it happen so I'll do everything within reason to bring it about. I don't really have any money to dump into it, so I'm not worried about overspending at this point but that's also a valid concern. lightless: I'll definitely dump a substantial donation on DP if this works because after all, it was essentially born right here in the forums! Since I'm not yet permitted to post links, feel free to PM me if you're interested in seeing my Ebay auctions for the Special Sponsor button placements or seeing my AWFUL YouTube first video attempt. Thanks, guys, for the support and insight!!
konrad: Doing what I can and waiting on the first sponsor so I can get exactly what he wants written for him. Never hurts to try!
It needs to catch on. If you can convince fifty people get on the bandwagon, the rest will come in due time. You need to build some excitement about this. For that you need to do something exciting and unusual. Maybe sing poems to passerby and post video's of that on youtube or something. Think crazy, unique and unusual.
lightless: Man and I thought making the YouTube video was embarassing! I'll have to see what I can do about a crazy idea... I might try reading some of them to the camera or something... But, yes, you're right it needs to catch fire. I'll just keep rubbing these sticks together until it does! Edit: The very first poem has just been approved for purchase! It'll go up the second I receive payment (provided I'm still awake lol)
I wanted to update this thread to say that I've actually gotten alot of good responses! One poem's been approved that I wrote for $5 (5 lines) and also, despite all the Ebay forum criticism, the #1 sponsor spot's been bid on! Thank you guys for all your comments and concerns because they helped me shape the idea. I mentioned these forums not only on the blog, but in the press release, also!
You may want to invest your first few bucks in some books which teach some techniques to improve your poetry writing skills [With names like how to write better poetry etc] or help to "inspire" your poetry. Would be for the better, remember, it needs to catch fire Good luck.
