Go to the merchant tools and create a donate button and tell him/her to put in the amount via the donate page.
You can just signin to your PayPal account and select "Merchant Services" and that will give you details on how to setup such a system so you can be paid by customers that don't have PayPal accounts. Oh, the irony!
The Donate Button is for donations and not for sale. Logically speaking, you can use the Paypal Request Money option to generate a Money request or the Invoice and they can pay via credit card assuming that they are from a supported paypal country. You can use the Buy Now button in the Merchant services for that too.
