hey guys ! If you cant tell, I'm new. looks like a lot of useful content for me here... anyway, Annoyingly i couldn't post in website reviews, but i have programmed this myself, from scratch, so i hope there is some relevance to this post. Long story short, i want to start up in the world of online business, I have some dated knowledge in web development, and over the last month, during my free time, i have created www.plecpicker.com I will be eventually selling all sorts of guitar and music paraphernalia, atm though i have 1 lonely box of strings XD. There is still a lot to do, and most of the images are temporary, As i say, i coded this myself, including the cart. by far my most ambitious attempt. If you guys could check it out, and give me opinions on what you like and don't like. My site renders pretty much fine on all browsers except that in IE8 down, some backings tile not stretch... Let me know what you think guys! rate!
Well, the layout looks quite okay, I would replace a lot of gradients with solid colors, the logo isn't very readable, remove the animation for the paypal verified logo, remove the mysql query displayed, make the paypal "Add to cart" buttons smaller on smaller items lower, replace the javascript alert boxes with some jQuery overlays or such, make the shopping cart white to be better visible, move the shopping cart total to the right and make the font larger and white. Well, pretty good start even though some things might need to be changed.
I think you are trying to do too much. It looks very busy to me... Like time square.. I don't know where the hell to look or what the hell is going on. You need a website that with in the first glance a visitor knows exactly what the site is about and how to navigate through it. Your site, while not terrible, fails in this approach. Try to imitate other successful sites selling products. Check out what they do. The layout of your products should be similar so the customer automatically has a feel for your site. Also a lot of newbies make the mistake of having a HUGE logo. You don't need a huge obnoxious logo. Everyone will notice your logo even if it's small. Just place it appropriately. Get rid of the CSS3 Font Effects. They make the site hard to read. I would also kill the animated fav.ico since it's obnoxious and annoying. It actually brings my eyes away from your content.
