Hey guys, I'm new... if that wasn't obvious =)

Well I can't really say that I am neww.. because I've been around marketing for awhile. A really close friend of mine is actually becoming a really great marketer and picks on me because it took me months to really get into it. He poured tons of information into me and a lot of it I let slip into one ear and out the other.. Boy do I wish I paid attention now. I have a job with this small company by my house and what I do is write descriptions for the products on their site and also try to get traffic to the site. (even though I don't see the point of doing that when it's not even finish yet.)

However, working there planted the seed of ambition needed to get started on my own ideas. Freelancing is something I find interesting.. to be able to write quality articles and such for people. Plus, I'm a very personable girl so giving them the personal attention they deserve is easy as pie for me. So my friend convinced me to get started on my idea. Now, I've never created a site before so all of the programs and such needed are new adventures for me to figure out.

So, I have been thinking of Names and SolidEssays sound good to me.. however I don't know how effective it would be, I'm open to any changes or just to meet a few people I could get close with to critique me on my journey through journalism.

Courtney, finding a name is great but have you decided what it is that you want to sell? Is it writing sales copy, writing quality content, rewriting articles, writing ebooks or something completely different?

I know that most people (at least I did that) start out by finding a name for their company. Unfortunately the name will do you no good if the idea sucks.

Did you spend time writing a business plan? If not then I suggest that you do so and that you ask your friend to comment on it or even help you out. That way you will save a lot of time and energy and avoid many mistakes.

It is not to put you down but time is so valuable so make sure not to waste it.

 

A business plan is really a must...it forces you to clarify your thinking and sets up timelines among other things. The value of a business plan is not the finished document but rather the process.

 

I understand completely.. I know that I am not going to do copy writing.. but articles, essays and reports I am interested in doing. I haven't written my plan yet however I have just started so All I'm really doing now is working in Dreamweaver and talking to my friend about what way would be better for me to go with it. He know's my abilities better than I do sometimes. lol

 

SolidEssays. That makes me think of school but if it's your niche I think it's perfect. Welcome to DP!

 

Welcome to DP and You seems to have a nice free writing style. thats a huge post for as Introductions post,not something we see often. but its good, shows yr skills.

 

Welcome to DP Courtney. You've gotten a great start with already getting some good advice and a job offer to boot. One thing that I'll ad is once you figure out your number 1 search category or phrase for the services you'll offer, it can be a huge help to have one or more of those words in your domain name.

Why thank you guys for all the help and support... I do love writing lol and a lot of the advice given has helped. I am planning on starting my site soon, it's already done in dreamweaver, I just need to get it up and running, once I decide on a name that is.. I do need some examples to show, if anyone needs and articles written or content, just let me know.. That's what my specialties consist of ( I have to learn more.)
