    I learned from the video courses at Lynda and VTC. Personally I prefer videos over books.

    I think courses from Lynda.com sucks for PHP. Lynda.com is only good for photoshop.

    IMO, I think you should go for Head First into PHP and MySQL (I believe that's the full title, if not Google it)

    If you want to learn advanced PHP, the book PHP Objects, Patterns, and Practice is good
