Anyone who can get people to pay 15k for a seminar and sell 3 thousand dollar products is obviously doing well for themselves. There are a lot of scammy marketers out there but he doesn't come off that way to me and he does teach legit stuff.

Great suggestions - all hinges on the traffic - which in turn hinges on you being able to offer something to the IMs' with the lists. Only suggestion to add is not to aim for IMs with massive lists because they will be more difficult to persuade. Try small IM sites first!

 

The piece of advice I liked the most was using quantcast to find out demographics of a website.

I use quantcast to determine my likely age demographics fro a product I'm pushing,

then check the age demographics for websites I'm going to buy ad space on, and it usually results in higher conversion when I match the two.
