I think many people follow the wrong strategy, I have 2 close friends, they built a website, They spent lots of money on website development, seo, advertising, But at the end they couldn't make it, They were not new to internet business, But the main reason was that they were not experienced enough to know where to advertise,
Their products were related to dvd, video games....
they spent lots of money on advertising on warez websites, the websites that you can download movies, tvshows, softwares for free.
But after a while they figured out that most people at those websites are not willing to spend money for their products, because they would like to have such things for free.
the project sucked, As they ran out of money. They couldn't even pay the bills.
But they did not give up and started a new project.
This time they were much more experienced, and after 6 months of bad situation and many problems, finally they could make it. And now they are making more every day.

Sometimes it might be best to perhaps look outside of things like mobile apps v websites stuff. It doesn't mean that I have given up on websites (I am getting ready to launch a new blog and a twitter clone geared towards chinese and english speakers doing a language exchange). It takes some time to be able to get something going.

I think part of the original thread said to choose a niche carefully, make sure it is something that people NEED and are desperate to buy then target that and most of all stick to it !!!

I very agree with your post Breg. Whether it's online or offline business, persistence is the key. In my first year doing internet marketing, I lost most of my capital because of my greed. I built many projects at the same time and I couldn't handle them. I ended up only made 20% of my capital. In second year of my IM journey, I changed my plan and only stick to 1 business model. With only small capital (less than $50) firstly, I could rinse and repeat until I made 1,000+ few months later. Then I realized that failure is a must for all newbie IMers, because that's natural way for any success.

    FOCUS is the KEY!
