I just finished building this site http://www.linkfinding.com/ and I think it's a great idea. It's a cross between a top 100 list network and a search engine. Every keyword becomes a top 100 list of sites where people can sign up to the list related to their web page and/or web site, copy and paste a voting button and forget about it. You can submit many pages from your site to many different lists or just your home page to a single list. Spam is filtered by the users reporting it. Every keyword or phrase is a top 100 list! Simply type in the keyword you want to find a list for in the search box and submit your url, copy and paste the voting button and soon others will join the list too sending everyone traffic! There is a list for every niche you can think of. The top lists are filled with results from Live Search and added to the database so that the lists look full but they don't have the voting buttons on their websites yet but soon they will want to because these lists will become popular fast. Check it out and let me know if you have any ideas that would make it better? Scott
It just looks like a wordpress blog to me at the moment, needs more content plus a little more work on your site design / interface.. but good luck with the idea.
Well, it's not wordpress at all. Maybe the template design looks like wordpress but I assure you it is far from a wordpress script. And what is so wrong with Wordpress anyway? I don't get it? I have a wordpress blog and it seems fine to me. Is everyone just tired of looking at wordpress blogs? Someone please explain this hate for wordpress to me. I wasn't trying to make it look like your standard "Top 100 List" site anyway. I am trying to make it look like a search engine that functions like a top 100 list.
I tried it out and I must admit the results are pretty good. Where are you pulling your data from? I would suggest that you re-design the site (layout & theme) and give it a search engine feel. Lose the purple links, and go with the traditional blue. Otherwise, I think you got something going here.
You can add a search module somewhere more visible? You have all 100 top list in the sidebar but i think that a search bar somewhere in the center of the page would be good.
People dont want a search engine to look like a wordpress blog, thats why they are hating. It doesnt even seem like a search site because your search area is in the sidebar (like a wordpress blog). So I would suggest that it look more like Google, or at least make the search area the main content. Hell if I went there and didnt look at this thread, i wouldnt know what it was.
If your going to use that template - it might be nice to leave the link in the footer back to free css templates. http://www.freecsstemplates.org/
There is a link to http://www.freecsstemplates.org/ --> http://www.linkfinding.com/greatresources.shtml They only require a link back to them from the site you use the template. They don't require a site wide link. Thanks for the design tips, I made the clickable links blue and added the search bar above the results. Now what do I need to do?
My little suggestion would be to change : To the right are a few of the top site lists that are popular at the moment. to To the right are a few top site lists that are popular at the moment. so it all fits on one line . . . i just like things to look smooth i dunno . . .
it's not wordpress, geez.. it's html extension eyezshine is using. but then again, your site will get discounted from google pagerank technology, coz what u have is all outbound links from your site... unless you incorporate some content rich materials... and why random no 1? you don't consider with click rate values to set top 100? it would be my idea to chip in. every unique IP click to visitors will count +1 and you can basically list top sites, and offer "newly added sites". so people will be able to view what are new since top 100 will always stay on top and they will keep staying if u don't provide links to newly added site. but sever loading is pretty cool for me. good luck with the site apart from that
Locals, I changed it to fit on one line. Thanks! Nandillilong??? The random site of the moment is there to give traffic to everyone in the list sometimes. No point in getting stingy, right? Plus votes are counted in and out of the lists. So when someone joins the list, they copy and paste a voting button to their website. When people click on the voting button they are sent to the list and a vote is calculated for that member. Then when that visitor clicks a link out from the list to another members site that is a vote for the other member which makes his site move up the list too. If your site happens to be in the random #1 spot and you get a click, you will get a vote and your link moves up the list. So not only will the site with the most votes in be at the top of the list, but the site that gets the most clicks out will move up too. I know it don't make much sense right now but it will make alot of sense to the person doing all the voting because they will get good results.
